How to Make Your Own Tarot Cards Using Your Intuition

If you've ever played around with a tarot deck (this article
assumes you have the Rider-Waite or similar deck) then you've probably
thought about making your own deck of tarot cards. However, if you
haven't taken the time to learn the meanings of each card, or you aren't
familiar with the Tarot, though you'd like to be, this can be a daunting
task. But, it doesn't have to be. You can create your own tarot deck
using your intuition.
If you keep in mind that each card tells its own story, then this will
help you. (See my article, How to Read the Tarot Using Your Intuition)
When beginning to get ideas for your own tarot deck, make sure you take
the time to look at each card and using your intuition tell that card's
story. This will help you to understand the inherent meanings in each
card. Once you feel you have a good understanding of a card, you can
begin to create your own card using your intuition. Start with one card
at a time.
You may think "But I'm no artist, how can I create a deck of tarot cards
if I'm not an artist?" The answer to that question is simply what I know
to be true, we are all artists in one form or another. If you aren't
comfortable drawing, or painting your cards, you can use collage, or a
3D art program such as Daz Studio or Poser. Daz Studio is free, comes
with free content and is compatible with Poser content. You can find a
lot of free Poser content online. See my article Top 12 Websites to Find
Free Poser Content, if you do decide to get either of these programs,
and don't want to spend a lot of money purchasing content.
Whatever method you choose to create your tarot deck, keep in mind this
is not about art, but rather about creating a tarot deck that you will
be able to use to do readings and that will be based on your intuitive
understanding of the Tarot.
By getting familiar with the story of one card at a time, and then
creating your own card with the same meanings using your intuition is
the easiest way to create your own tarot deck. Also this allows you the
time to really become familiar with the Tarot. Keep in mind, it is not a
race to get to the finish line and complete the last card in the deck.
It is not uncommon for a person to take six months or more to create
their first tarot deck. Allow yourself the time to use your intuition
and to find the tools that will work best for you to create your tarot
deck.
Once you have decided which art form you are going to use to create the
pictures for your tarot deck, you then need to decide what materials you
are going to use. These of course will vary depending on what art form
you choose. If you decide to paint your cards, then you will of course
use whatever paints and paper you would use for that art form. Decide
what size you want your cards to be and paint the picture accordingly.
If you decide to draw or use either collage or 3D art to do the artwork
on your cards then a heavy cardstock that you can either glue pictures
to, draw or print on and then cut out works best.
As you work your way through your tarot deck, you may find yourself
finding deeper meanings to some of the cards you first created. This is
not unusual, and you may find that you want to create a newer card to
show this new intuitive understanding. This is normal. Don't be afraid
to re-create cards if your understanding of a card changes or becomes
more complex.
Creating your own tarot deck is a fantastic way to learn to use your
powers of intuition. You will find that you are able to see and
understand what is going on around you with far more clarity as your
intuition develops during the course of creating your tarot deck. This
is one of the added benefits to having your own tarot deck that you
created and with which you are familiar with as you do readings for
yourself and others!
