HOW TO MAKE A TAROT BAG by J.M. Wilhite

Generally, most individuals who have Tarot decks either wrap the decks in a piece of material, such as a scarf made from silk or store them in a Tarot bag. There are other various ways by which the Tarot can be stored such as a stone box or wooden chest--though these obviously hinder your ability to carry the deck with you. Here is how to make a simple, austere tarot bag.

Things You'll Need:

Piece of material 17 inches by 61/2 inches

Two pieces of ribbon (or thin cord) 17 inches long

Needle

Thread

Straight pins

Step 1

Fold the piece of material (with the backside facing out) in half lengthwise so that you have a bag measuring 8 1/2 inches in length by 6 1/2 inches wide.

Step 2

Make sure that all sides match up evenly. Using the straight pins, pin the sides so that they are held in place.

Step 3

Using the needle and thread, stitch the sides by hand approx. 1/8 inch from the edge. Leave 2 inches unstitched at the top.

Step 4

On either end of the two tops of the material, stitch along the outer edges to help keep them from unraveling.

Step 5

Once you have stitched both sides, fold the material at the top in half so that you have a fold 1 inch wide. Using straight pins, fasten the material in place so that you are able to stitch the inside edge (at the bottom of the fold) of the material. Make sure to start your stitch from the side facing you.

Step 6

Once you have finished stitching, turn the bag inside out. Take one of the two pieces of ribbon and feed it through one side of the top (including both sides of the bag) so that you have both ends meeting on the opposite side. Knot the two ends together. Now take the other piece of ribbon and feed it through the opposite direction. Once both ends are through, knot those ends together as well. When you pull the knotted ribbons from both sides at the same time, the bag should close easily.
